Craighalbert and the Scottish
Curriculum
The
aims of the Craighalbert Centre are very similar to the more general
aims of education. The Centre provides an opportunity to develop young
people able to take a full part in the world in which they live. This
education will encourage those children at the Craighalbert Centre to
play an active role in their families and communities. At the Craighalbert
Centre the philosophy, principles and tools of conductive education are
used within the context of national advice on the curriculum, thereby
enriching the practice.
The programmes of work are planned thematically and in close reference to the
national guidelines such as:
- A Curriculum Framework for Children 3 to 5
- The 5 - 14 Guidelines
- The Elaborated 5 –14 Curriculum
- Effective Provision for Special Educational Needs
- A Manual of Good Practice for Special Educational Needs
- Support for Learning
The children have Individualised Educational Programmes (IEP).
The teaching resources, including reading and maths schemes, used within the
Craighalbert Centre are the same as those used by their peers in any other
school in Scotland. Hence, when the children move on, they will be familiar
with the materials they encounter.
