The School/Transition Group
The children in the School/Transition Group are taught and given the
opportunity to practise and generalise the wide variety of gross
and fine motor skills,
which are essential for achieving maximum independence in upright posture,
hand function and mobility. The children practise and generalise a wide
variety of life skills essential for achieving maximum independence
in eating and
drinking, dressing and undressing, and toileting and personal hygiene.
The School/Transition Group requires a considerable degree of differentiation
and sub-groups are formed for many activities.
The children in this Group usually have a split placement and attend
local provision, as well as the Craighalbert Centre. Regular review meetings
and reciprocal visits are carried out according to an agreed plan of
transition.
The School/Transition Group prepares for local provision by:
- Encouraging active learning
- Promoting independence and life skills
- Developing acceptable age
appropriate behaviour
- Establishing a curriculum based upon the 5-14
guidelines in the context of conductive education
- Establishing a balance
of teaching, practice and generalisation
- Establishing a balance between
cognitive and physical development
- Ensuring the children, their parents
and the local team are well prepared for the transition process
